Katie McClelland
Katie McClelland has been teaching yoga full time since 1997. She likes to joke that she was certified to teach yoga while still in the womb, as her mother went through yoga teacher training while pregnant with her! Katie’s roots are in ashtanga yoga and she derives inspiration from many styles of yoga including Vinyasa, Iyengar, Anusara and Kundalini.

Katie is the founder of De La Sol Yoga Studios in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada which first opened in 2006 and expanded to a second location in Waterdown. She is the host of Yoga With Katie, a 30min instructional yoga show which airs six days a week and is seen by 900,000 viewers. Recently, Katie has been speaking out at high schools and recovery centers about her history of drug addiction and ongoing journey towards wellness and wholeness. She is currently working on her first book, a memoir titled Waking Up.
Erin Aquin
Erin has been passionate about sharing yoga since she was 20 years old. She is a Certified Hatha Vinyasa and Pre-natal Instructor and a Practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, who began formally teaching in 2003. In 2006, Erin completed a second 200+ hour Advanced Training in Montreal with two inspirational teachers from two different traditions, Mark Darby and Hart Lazer. It was this experience that inspired her to blend different forms of yoga and make it accessible and enjoyable for as many students as possible.

As a senior teacher at De La Sol, Erin has teaches a specialized brand of Yin Yang Yoga that bridges vigorous flow sequences, long held postures and meditation with concepts of Chinese Medicine and modern spirituality. She is thrilled to be part of the De La Sol community and in her time not teaching at the studio she works with students worldwide through her articles and videos at www.aquinyoga.com.

Among Erin's favourite yoga poses is Bakasana (Crow). It took almost 7 years to earn it and it feels great to fly!
Donna Powell
Donna began her yoga journey with Susan McClelland and Nesta Falladown in 2002. She enrolled in The Yoga Centre of Burlington’s intensive 2 year Teacher Training program and it was there that she met Katie McClelland who became a personal friend, soul sister and guru who inspired Donna to experience the joys and rewards of teaching Ashtanga Yoga.

Donna has taken teacher training with Francois Raoult and David Swenson and continues to attend classes offered by a variety of accomplished practitioners such as Seane Corn, Baron Baptiste and Doug Swenson. Donna currently teaches a Gentle Hatha class in a calm, nurturing, supportive environment designed to give students a strong base from which to expand their practice and personal connection to their true nature and spirituality.

Donna's favourite yoga pose is Vasisthsana (Side Plank) because of the wonderful feeling of being lifted from below, the way the heart opens as you reach for the sky. The pose is a beautiful balance of being grounded and strong while soaring and reaching to the heavens with an open heart!
Nancy Cochren
Nancy began studying yoga in 1999 while earning a Bachelor of Science in Physiology from McGill University. She was immediately hooked! After returning home to Ontario she attended the Yoga Centre of Burlington where she discovered Ashtanga yoga with Katie. It was a perfect balance to her study of martial arts in which she holds a second degree black belt in Shorin Ryu Karate and civilian black belt in Krav Maga. As a long time martial arts instructor, she developed a sport-specific yoga program and began teaching in 2004.

Soon after De La Sol was opened at the Aberdeen location, with an overwhelming response from the community, Katie found she had to bring on more teachers. Nancy happily began teaching there and went on to complete her 200 hour YTT at De La Sol in 2008. In 2011 Nancy completed the first Yoga Tune Up teacher training held in Canada with Jill Miller. This has reinvigorated her teaching with a physiological approach to the practice and she continues to joyfully share her passion with students.

Nancy loves so many poses but does take any opportunity to kick into pincha mayurasana, discovering new perspective in body, in mind and spirit!

Andre has found his passion in teaching absolute beginners and the ‘in-flexible’ as well as co-directing the De La Sol Yoga Teacher Training Program. His strength as a teacher comes from his ability to put students at ease, encouraging pain free range of motion, exploration of breath and self-reflection. In addition to yoga, Andre is a competitive Brazilian jiu-jitsu athlete and instructor, and recently competed at the 2012 World Championships in California.

Andre's favourite yoga pose is Savasana (Corpse Pose) because it is deeply meditative and restorative.
Steve Ferrell
Steve found his pathway to Yoga as a bodybuilder and personal trainer who was always feeling tight, sore and looking for “more” out of his physical workouts. Steve tried his first class with Hamilton’s Alex Bovkis and immediatley fell in love. Within 3 months Steve was enrolled in his first 200hr Teacher Training with Heather Greaves. Steve was certified through Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT), a style founded by renowned Yoga therapist, Joseph LePage. Steve found his way to De La Sol where he immediately fell in love with the fluidity, strength and meditative qualities of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. Steve is always learning, and combined with his interests in Human Anatomy, Ayruveda and Buddhist Meditation, he continues to deepen his practice. He offers a challenging, invigorating but very quirky and light hearted class, blending the physical with an emphasis on the mental and spiritual facets of the practice.
Martha Shea
Martha has been practicing and teaching yoga since 2000 and received her first 300 hour yoga certification with The American Yoga Academy that same year. In 2001 Martha received her yoga certification from The Yoga and Healing Center in New Jersey with Wendy Grosse, who specializesin Soul Sweat Yoga. Martha has been inspired by David Life and Sharon Gannon and has attended several intensive training and summer camps with them. This year, Martha completed her Baron Baptiste Level 2, and is currently working on her certification with him.

Martha’s mat is a vehicle for creativity and freedom in her life. She counts her blessings on her mat. It is a place of pure space where she connects to her center, her strength and her authenticity. Yoga has brought Martha through some very challenging times in her life. She believes in many ways that it has saved her. It reminds her constantly that she is always stronger than she thinks she is, and it reminds her to be present in her moment, her life, one breath at a time.

Martha’s favourite poses are arm balances. Arm balances combine freedom and strength. You need to draw on your core, your truth before you can find the courage to fly. They remind you that anything is possible – all you have to do is break the branch, trust and fly into endless possibilities !!!
David Wagg
David began dabbling in yoga asana in 1972 to sustain his pursuits of running, swimming and climbing. He got serious about studying asana in 1997 with Maureen Ona Corcoran and in 2005 began studying Ashtanga with Byron Salorme and in 2007 with Katie McClelland. In the spring of 2009 he completed training in the Iyengar style with Nesta Falladown.

David started studying meditation in 1989 at the Korean Zen Centre in Toronto where he took his precepts in 1991. In 1994 studied for a short time at Kopan Monastery in Nepal; returning there in 1999 to teach English for a summer. David is now concentrating on Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka. It is the pursuit of Yoga asana that has brought David full-circle and he will renew his Buddhist precepts in May 2013 at the Zen Temple in Toronto.

His favourite pose is Sukhasana, for meditation. He continues to hold his past teachers in high esteem: Maureen Ona Corcoran, Byron Salorme, Nesta Falladown, Katie McClelland, Samu Sunam (Zen Temple), and, Lama Lhundrup (deceased), former abbot of Kopan Monastery. He has great regard for his recent and present teachers: Karen Cove, Steve Ferrell, Andre Grandbois, Nancy Cochren, Anwar Qureshi and Kendell MacLeod.
Anwar Qureshi
Anwar found yoga in 2006 after realizing an active youth had given way to less healthy habits as he aged. Determined to regain his healthy lifestyle, he was drawn to yoga for it's fitness component, which works as one of the best cross trainers for many athletic endeavours. After practicing casually for two years Anwar found it was the mental and emotional benefits that kept him coming back to his mat.

With the new found depth to his practice, Anwar began practicing more seriously and completed his 200 Hour Teacher Training Certification at De La Sol in 2011 and is now teaching yoga full time. Anwar has taught with Yoga Rocks, a yoga program that brings yoga to high school boy's gym classes.

It is the combination and balance between the physical and mental that led Anwar to reorient his life towards practicing and teaching yoga. His favourite pose embodies these qualities, Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand), which requires both focus and strength.
Elise Greenspoon
Elise first began her practice of yoga in 2005 and has devoted her life to the practice ever since. She has spent over a cumulative year of her life there, working with her teacher and deepening her own practice.

In 2013, she received her level 2 authorization from the institute to teach this system. She has also studied ayurveda, massage and past life healing therapy in great depths. Elise believes that ashtanga yoga is a way to live up to the peak of your potential as a human being and is excited to share the knowledge she has acquired with all who are willing to receive it.
Claudia Bauman
Claudia believes that people come to yoga to feel better and that we are all seeking an experience of our own goodness. It is Claudia’s intention as a teacher to encourage others to be open of heart, open of mind, open to feeling better both on their yoga mats and most importantly, during the yoga of everyday life.

Claudia has drawn upon the experience of her teaching career in education and brought it into a new domain..the yoga mat. She completed her 200 hour Teacher Training in the Anusara Tradition with Michael Siddal in 2008 and continues to learn from him. Guiding and inspiring Claudia on her journey have been her valued friends and teachers Katie McClelland and Andre Grandbois.

Kelly Fife
As a competitive gymnast, Kelly was trained from a very young age to ignore how her body was feeling and to push through pain. This mindset stayed with her for years, but ironically only lead to tight muscles and stiff, achy joints. Although Kelly was initially drawn to yoga to increase pain free range of motion, she has since learned how to move and breathe with awareness, as well as experienced the physical and psychological benefits of leading a mindful life.

A recent graduate from De La Sol's 2011-2012 Yoga Teacher Training Program, Kelly's classes are inspired by the benefits of maintaining proper alignment while moving in and out of postures, as well as by the enjoyment she has found in moving with breath while flowing from one posture to the next.

As a student in her class, Kelly hopes you will find space to move with your own breath, explore your own practice, and eventually experience how a mindful practice on the mat can lead to greater overall well-being once you are off.

Kelly's favourite yoga pose is Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand). Even if just for a split second, there is a feeling of weightlessness she can find there that she never experienced standing on two feet!

Chris Nguyen
Chris is a yoga and Pilates teacher. Curiosity is what brought Chris into his first yoga class. That curiosity marked the beginning of an ongoing journey and passion for the practice of yoga and a profound desire to deepen that relationship.

Chris completed De La Sol's 200 hour YTT and is currently studying the Ashtanga Yoga method. With persistence and dedication, one's yoga practice can only strengthen and grow deeper. In 2015, Chris embarked on two separate trip to Mysore, India to study with R.Sharath Jois and Saraswathi Rangaswamy at KPJAYI (Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute), the source of Ashtanga yoga. In 2018, Chris completed his fourth trip studying at the Shala with Paramaguru Sharath Jois. Chris is a certified Functional Range Conditioning Movement Specialist (FRCms) under Dr. Andreo Spina and continues to work with Head FRC & Kinstretch Master Instructor, Dana John Heimbecker. He is also studying the art of hand balancing under renown circus coach, Nicolas Montes de Oca. Chris is also a second degree Reiki practitioner.

In 2017, Chris completed the Yoga Tune Up Level 1 Teacher Training created by Jill Miller.

To Chris, yoga is not something to "excel" at but rather about cultivating contentment, compassion, mindfulness, self acceptance and bringing awareness into the body. Yoga has transformed his life on and off the mat. As a teacher, he aspires to help others find a santosha (contentment) and a deeper connection to themselves.

One of Chris' favourite poses is urdhva dhanurasana (upward bow pose). The feeling of opening up to endless possibilities can be quite addicting.

Anthony Berlingeri
Anthony relates yoga to being in a relationship; it takes commitment, vulnerability, playfulness, faith, forgiveness, & compassion. Anthony’s love affair with yoga began about 8 years ago & like most relationships do, it started on the surface. My hamstrings were super tight and I wanted to loosen up while toning my body. Little did I know yoga would remain with me throughout some of the hardest times of my life. Yoga became a mirror for me to see myself in. Most of us start to practice for the simple reason of strengthening the mind and body, but ultimately we begin to re-discover our own truth. We get out of our heads and into our Selves, which is the very nature of love. As a teacher I believe the essence of yoga is also the art of living. Its about being present for our Self, and the world that we live in, so that we can express and celebrate the divinity that we all share. Yoga isn’t a religion, nor does it have anything to do with becoming a better person. Its simply about letting go of the past, as well as our fears of the future, so that the gift of the present can be received! Anthony is recognized in the community for his commitment to bring yoga and meditation into schools through his Yoga Affects Youth initiative. His intention is bring the gift of yoga and meditation to children so that they can begin the path of their own discovery from an early age. For more information check out yogaaffectsyouth.com.

Anthony's favourite yoga pose is Salamba Sirsasana (Headstand). It's not often he flips his world upside down, but when he does it gives him a completely different view and perspective. It also forces him to be present to avoid tumbling over.
Kerry Casarin
Kerry began practicing yoga as a teenager, and was instantly drawn to the physical challenge. She continued to practice as a means of exercise but her focus shifted after the birth of her daughter, and her practice became a way to find quiet, mindful space in her busy life. While she still enjoys a vigorous flow class, she equally enjoys melting into her mat for restorative yoga too!

After becoming a mom, Kerry decided that she wanted to spread her love of yoga with everyone she could, and completed her 200 hr teacher training in 2013 at De La Sol in Hamilton; she also studied prenatal and postnatal yoga through the Yoga Sanctuary in Toronto, and children’s yoga with Yoga Rocks.

Kerry's favourite pose is Garudasana,(Eagle Pose). It makes her feel fierce and powerful, yet soft and graceful.
Lauren Speziale
Lauren’s passion for yoga centres around the practice of awareness, self-inquiry and interoception. It is through this ongoing practice that the relationship with the self is strengthened. Through Yin Yang yoga, Lauren helps her students to find a balance in their practice that involves work, effort and growth, with being receptive, passive and grounded, bringing more harmony into their lives.
Lauren practiced yoga through both of her pregnancies and experienced many of the benefits yoga has to offer while carrying her babies and preparing for their births. She was so grateful for yoga during these times, that it ignited her excitement to share the gift of yoga with others!

Lauren’s passion for the practice continues to grow with the study of Ayurveda, which is the art of finding harmony in all relationships, first with the self, then with others, and the universe. She encourages her students to continue their practice off the mat - to practice connection to the breath and awareness of the body and mind on our mats, to then be able to step into our roles and relationships more connected and aware, at home, work and in the community.
