Teaching Faculty:

Katie McClellandKatie McClelland
Studio Owner & Director
Yoga Asana, Teaching Methodology & Chakras

Katie has been teaching yoga full time since 1997. She likes to joke that she was ‘certified’ to teach yoga while still in the womb, as her mother went through yoga teacher training while pregnant with her!

Katie’s passion for yoga began in David Swenson’s first Ashtanga Yoga Immersion when she fell in love with the intense, athletic nature of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. Since then, she has studied with many inspiring and renowned teachers in the Ashtanga, Iyengar and Anusara yoga traditions. Most notably, Katie studied with the grandfather of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, Sri K Pattabhi Jois, for five months in Mysore, India.

Katie opened De La Sol Yoga Studios with the intention of creating a vibrant yoga community; bringing together like minded people to practice, share ideas, raise money for charitable causes and contribute to the greater good of the Hamilton Community.

Katie loves a yoga practice that challenges her body, focuses her mind, opens her heart and strengthens her connection to soul. It is these kind of experiences that Katie and her wonderful staff of teachers bring to each student at De La Sol Yoga.

Steve Ferrell
Anatomy

Steve found his pathway to Yoga as a bodybuilder and personal trainer who was always feeling tight, sore and looking for “more” out of his physical workouts. Steve tried his first class with Hamilton’s Alex Bovkis and immediatley fell in love. Within 3 months he was enrolled in his first 200hr Teacher Training with Heather Greaves.Steve was certified through Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT), a style founded by renowned Yoga therapist, Joseph LePage.

Steve found his way to De La Sol where he immediately fell in love with the fluidity, strength and meditative qualities of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. Steve is always learning, and combined with his interests in Human Anatomy, Ayruveda and Buddhist Meditation, he continues to deepen his practice. He offers a challenging, invigorating but very quirky and light hearted class, blending the physical with an emphasis on the mental and spiritual facets of the practice.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about the faculty?

A: De La Sol is so incredibly proud of - and inspired by - our amazing TT faculty! Katie has been a full time yoga teacher for twenty years and her mother, Sue, a practicing yogi for over 50 years and was the co founder of The Yoga Centre of Burlington. Steve brings extensive, cutting-edge anatomy and movement knowledge to the course. Scott and Peter are international teachers and masters in their fields, allowing their areas of study (philosophy, and meditation) to shine vibrantly with relevance and practicality to the modern day yoga practitioner and teacher. Included in the course are segments with some of your beloved De La Sol teachers - Nancy, Martha, and Charlene.

Q: What does an average weekend look like?

A: Some weekends you will have a mix of topics covered with multiple faculty members and other weekends will be spent solely with one teacher. Each weekend is a balanced combination of physical work and discussion/lecturing.

Q: Does it make sense to take this course if I just love yoga but don't really plan on teaching?

A: Yes! This course is a perfect combination of diving deep into the practice of yoga and learning how to communicate your passion and make it a vocation if you so choose. Personal development is in integral part of the course.

Q: Are yoga classes included in the cost of the training?

A: Yes, you have access to unlimited classes at all three locations from the start date of the course until graduation day! The only exception is the morning Mysore program - this is $40 a month if you wish to join it.

Q: Is there a lot of extra work required outside of class hours?

A: The majority of the work will take place during the TT weekends. 10 hours of the training are active hands-on assisting of existing DLS classes, which take place outside of the weekend training hours. We also require that you take at least two yoga classes a week. If you live further away, you can do a class Sat and Sun morning and then stay for TT. We also have a karma yoga project which involves 5 hours of volunteer work - taking the principles of yoga off the mat and into the world. We help you choose your volunteer task. You then write a paper of 500 words on your experience of giving selflessly. Lastly, there will be an anatomy test  at the end of your segment with Steve.

Q: Is the course Yoga Alliance recognized?

A: We offer the highest level of education and accreditation recognized by the Canadian and American Yoga Alliances and are always up to date with any new regulations or alliances that will help you put your best foot forward as a graduate. instructor.

Q: What happens if I have to miss a session?

A: There are ways to make up missed sessions: The first is to book a private session with the teacher whose segment you missed. This is at an extra cost to you, usually about $100 an hour. Generally, if a 3 or 4 hours segment is missed, it takes an hour to make up. If a whole day is missed, it takes about 2 hours to make up. The other option is to write a paper of a determined length that shows you have an understanding of the material covered that day. We can also record the session for you so that you can listen to the contents at home. We have even had registrants Skype in while they are away!

Q: What if I have to miss two full weekends?

A: If you know you are going to miss this much of the course, we recommend you hold off and register for the course at a later date.

Q: What are my payment options?

A: If you pay in full the between today and the beginning of the course, the cost is $3100. If you pay in full after the start date of the course or choose our payment instalment plan, the cost is $3400.
The payment plan option is available to all students registering for the program.
Payments will be divided into 6 payments with the initial non-refundable deposit of $500+HST and $580+HST after which will be automatically charged to your credit card once a month.
